The Sigma 12mm F1.4 DC Contemporary is an ultra-wide prime lens for APS-C mirrorless cameras. The Sony E-mount version provides a 99.6° angle of view. The lens combines a 12mm focal length with a bright F1.4 aperture. Therefore, it suits wide scenes, travel, street photography, and video. It also provides an 18mm equivalent focal length on Sony APS-C cameras. The optical design uses 14 elements in 12 groups. It includes two SLD elements and three aspherical elements. In addition, Sigma designed the lens to reduce sagittal coma flare. Autofocus uses a stepping motor for fast and precise operation. Furthermore, the lens suppresses focus breathing during video recording. It also includes an aperture ring for direct aperture control. The lens has a minimum focusing distance of 17.2cm. Its maximum magnification ratio is 1:8.4. Moreover, the rounded nine-blade diaphragm provides an aperture range down to F16. Sigma uses a dust- and splash-resistant structure. The front element also has a water- and oil-repellent coating. However, Sigma notes that the lens is not waterproof. The Sony E-mount version accepts 62mm filters.
