The Tamron 17-70mm F/2.8 Di III-A VC RXD is an APS-C zoom lens for Sony E-mount cameras. It covers a 17-70mm focal range with a constant F/2.8 maximum aperture. On Sony APS-C cameras, it provides a 25.5-105mm full-frame equivalent range. The optical design uses 16 elements in 12 groups. It includes two Low Dispersion elements, two Glass Molded Aspherical elements, and one hybrid aspherical element. In addition, BBAR coating helps reduce flare and ghosting. The lens uses Tamron’s RXD autofocus system. It provides fast and quiet focusing for still images and video. Moreover, it works with Sony features such as Fast Hybrid AF and Eye AF. Built-in VC Vibration Compensation helps reduce camera shake. It also uses algorithms designed for video recording. Therefore, the stabilization system supports both still photography and handheld video. The lens suppresses focus breathing during focus changes. It also uses a moisture-resistant construction and fluorine coating. Furthermore, the front element uses a 67mm filter size. The minimum object distance is 0.19m at 17mm. At 70mm, the minimum object distance is 0.39m. The maximum magnification ratio reaches 1:4.8 at the wide end and 1:5.2 at the telephoto end. The diaphragm uses nine blades and provides a minimum aperture of F22. The Sony E-mount version measures 119.3mm in length and weighs approximately 525g.
